Twilight over Faro

This is the hand-embellished print of Twilight over Faro, made by me in my Sydney studio. The original has found its home with a private collector.

I took the aerial photograph from a plane window at 30,000 feet, descending into Faro on Portugal's Algarve coast as daylight faded. Purples, whites, and blues dissolve the line between sky and Atlantic. Line work maps the topographic meeting point of continent and ocean, the threshold where Europe ends and the unknown begins.

A cartography of edges, of the places where one world gives way to another. Part of Maps to Milk: Contemporary Cartography of the Diaspora.

This isn't a poster. Each print is hand-embellished by me with ink and synthetic polymer, signed and numbered on the back. Edition of 25 per size, each one a unique hand-embellished variation. No two are exactly the same.

About the artist
