Twilight over Faro, Portugal
Acrylic on canvas, informed by aerial photograph personally captured at 30,000 feet over the Algarve coast. A descent into Faro as daylight fades. Purples, whites, and blues dissolving the line between sky and Atlantic.
Line work maps the topographic meeting point of continent and ocean, the threshold where Europe ends and the unknown begins.
A cartography of edges, of the places where one world gives way to another. Part of Maps to Milk: Contemporary Cartography. This piece features an aerial map I personally photographed from a plane window over the rolling hills of rural Tuscany at sunrise.
The map is embedded into vibrant abstract layers of warm golds, soft pinks, and deep oranges, then I hand-embellish each print with architectural line work and painted edges.
No two are exactly the same.
What Makes This Unique:
This isn't a regular print. Each one is individually hand-embellished by me in my Sydney studio, making it a one-of-a-kind variation within an edition of 9.
The embedded aerial map represents the freedom I found when I escaped to Tuscany; searching for stillness in a world of constant urgency.
The Frequency Series explores the tension between:
- Doing vs. Being
- Urgency vs. Stillness
- Man-made structures vs. Organic freedom
When you hang this on your wall, it reminds you: you're allowed to rest. You're allowed to take up space. You're allowed to be free.
