Why a print

The print, explained

Why a print

A print here is not a poster. It is an archival, hand-finished, limited edition work that carries the same map, and the same meaning, as the original painting.

What is a giclée print?

A giclée is a fine art print made with archival pigment inks on museum-grade paper. It is the standard galleries and collectors trust, because the colour is rich, the detail is exact, and the work stays stable for generations rather than fading the way a standard poster does.

What makes a Brigitte Gerges print different?

Every work in the Contemporary Cartography series holds a real place. Aerial photography and GPS coordinates from a specific location sit in the foundation of the painting, buried under the layers. The print carries that same story. It looks abstract until you learn there is a map of a real life underneath.

What does hand-finished mean?

A hand-finished edition is worked over by hand after printing, with ink and synthetic polymer, so the surface holds real texture and small differences from one to the next. No two are identical. Gold leaf is available on request. Limited edition prints without hand-finishing are still signed and numbered, with the clean printed surface.

Is it a limited edition?

Yes. Each size is released in a limited edition of 25, signed and numbered by hand. Once an edition sells through, it is never reprinted. You are buying a numbered work, not an open-ended reproduction.

What is it printed on?

Archival pigment inks on Canson Photographique 310gsm, a heavyweight 100 percent cotton rag paper. It is acid free and made to last, which is what keeps the work archival and collectible.

Does it come with a certificate of authenticity?

Yes. Every print ships with a signed certificate of authenticity recording the title, edition number, size, and materials, so its provenance travels with the work.

Where is it made and shipped from?

Each print is produced and hand-finished in the studio in Parramatta, Western Sydney, and ships from Sydney. Delivery is available Australia-wide and internationally.

How much do prints cost?

Limited edition prints start from $95. Hand-finished editions start from $890. Sizes run from A5 through to A0, so there is an entry point to begin a collection and larger works to anchor a wall.

Documentation, not decoration. A map of a real place, made to outlast the wall it hangs on.

Work by a Florence Biennale exhibitor (2023) and Australia's Art Ambassador, named under the patronage of UNESCO.
