Is this you?
We don't have a date night problem. We have a someone-has-to-organise-the-bloody-thing problem.
You get one night where you're both home and neither of you is on a call. Someone says what do you want to do. Someone says I don't know. Someone suggests a restaurant, which means a booking, which means working out whether anyone can watch the kids, which means parking.
Forty minutes later you're beside each other on the couch, on separate phones, watching separate things, calling it time together.
And somewhere along the way the big shop started counting. Wandering around the supermarket on a Thursday night, having a considered conversation about washing powder, both of you quietly filing it under time together.
If the grocery shop is date night, that's a problem. You know it and I know it. 😂
alright, quick audit 😬
- How many actual date nights have you had this year? Count them. It's August.
- When was the last photo of the two of you that neither of you took?
- When did you last talk about something that wasn't the kids, the house, or what needs doing on the weekend?
Not a great scoreboard, is it. Mine wasn't either. 🙃
Wanting to was never the hard part. Deciding is. So I've decided.
Sort out Friday nightWhat it is
One painting. Two of you. Your kitchen table.
Put the kids to bed, or don't have any. Pour something. Put your phones in another room. Press play.
I'll teach you both a painting from the first brushstroke to the last one, the same way I'd teach it in a classroom. You'll each end up with your own version, and strong opinions about which one is better.
The actual painting
Here's what you'll both be making.
Not a mystery. This is the piece I walk you through, brushstroke by brushstroke.
and here's how three different people's turned out 😅
None of them look the same and none of them are meant to. Yours won't either.
I want to paint this oneHow it works
Four steps, and two of them are just pouring a drink.
-
Pick a night
Any night. It's recorded, so 8:47pm on a Tuesday is completely fine.
-
Get the bits
Paint, two canvases, two brushes. I send you the exact list the moment you pay, with the sizes and the colours written down so you're not standing in an aisle guessing.
-
Press play
I take it from there. Colour mixing, brush work, what to do when yours goes sideways halfway through. Pause me as often as you like.
-
Argue about whose is better
Two paintings, one wall. This part is between you and your relationship.
What's inside for $47
Everything except the wine.
- The full guided painting class, start to finish, taught for two people
- The exact materials list, with sizes, colours and where to get them
- The reference image, so you can see where you're heading
- Conversation prompts, if you want them. Ignore them if you don't
- A playlist, because someone has to choose the music and it may as well be me
- Yours to keep, so you can paint it again with someone else
One night, or three?
Three nights
$97
Three different paintings instead of one. Do them a month apart, or hand one of them to another couple.
Get all three$50 for the two extra, instead of $94 if you came back for them later 👀
The bit everyone asks about
No, you don't already own paint. Nobody does.
Here's the whole shopping list: two canvases, a starter set of acrylics, two brushes. Around $25 at Officeworks or any art shop, and it's enough paint for several nights, not one.
If you've got kids' paints in a cupboard, you already have most of it.
Nothing gets posted to you unless you want it to be. The moment you pay, the class and the list land in your inbox, and you can do the shop on your lunch break.
Optional
Or I can just send you the lot.
Two canvases, the paints, two brushes, boxed and posted to your door. $35 plus shipping, calculated at checkout, anywhere in Australia.
Get the class + the kitThe class still lands in your inbox straight away. The box takes 3 to 7 business days, so pick a night for next week.
Let's kill the three excuses
You can do this without either of you being able to paint.
"Neither of us can paint."
Good. That's the entire job. I teach 15 year olds to paint at 9am on a Monday. Two adults with a drink is a considerably easier room. 😂
"Ours won't look like yours."
Correct, and I'd be a bit worried if it did. Your partner's won't look like yours either. That's most of the fun and all of the argument. 😅
"We'll start it and never finish it."
It's about 90 minutes and you can pause me, walk away, and come back next Tuesday. It doesn't expire and it doesn't judge you. 🙃
What the night actually looks like
It isn't really about the painting. It's an hour where your hands are busy, your phone is in another room, and you're both laughing at what's happening to his canvas.
Neither of you is going to become a painter. You're going to be properly in the same room, for the first time in a while. And in the morning there are two wonky paintings on the bench that weren't there yesterday.
that's the whole pitch, honestly 🤍

A real couple did this. Here are the messages.
Tala booked this exact night with her husband, at home, taught by me. Her words, exactly as she sent them:
"Hubby and I wanted to spend some time being creative at home!"
"We loved it!!!!"
"Social interaction was amazing!!!"
"Hamzi would love to purchase the one you painted with us... he wanted to keep it as a reminder of our first session"
Real messages, word for word
he bought the painting to remember the night 🤍
On the money
A night out for two is well over $250. This is $47.
I do love going out. someone please invite me
A night out for two
- Dinner. Two mains, a couple of drinks
- One more somewhere, because you're already out
- Getting there and getting home
- A babysitter, for four hours minimum
- Shoes. Actual shoes.
This
- Your table
- Your drinks
- Your snacks
- My class, for both of you
- Whatever you're already wearing
None of this is instead of going out. Go out. Book the thing. This is for the other 50 Fridays, where you look at each other and go, do you actually want to leave the house, and you're both very relieved when the answer is no. 😂
$47 for the two of usWho's teaching you
I'm Brigitte, and I built this because we needed it.
I've got a toddler. Since she arrived, date night has been a problem and quality time has been a problem, and for a long stretch there our version of both was eating dinner at 9pm on separate phones. 😂
I kept waiting for us to have more energy. We did not have more energy. So I stopped waiting and made the night instead, because the only bit that was ever hard was deciding.
The other half of it: I'm a painter, and I teach Visual Arts in a NSW high school. I've taught over 200 people to paint, most of whom told me first that they couldn't.
So this isn't a picture with good luck attached. I'll teach you properly: how to hold the brush, how to mix the colour so it doesn't go muddy, and what to do at the point where you're convinced you've ruined it. You haven't. Everyone hits that point. It's part of painting.
I made the thing I wanted someone to make for me 🤍
Let's do itQuestions
Is it live?
No. It's recorded, so you start whenever suits you and pause as often as you like. Nobody is waiting on you.
How long does it take?
About 90 minutes if you go straight through. Most couples take longer because they stop to talk, which is sort of the point.
Can we watch it on a phone?
You can, but a laptop or tablet is much easier to follow while your hands are covered in paint.
How long do we get access?
It's yours to keep. Paint it again next month with someone else if you like.
Do we each need our own canvas?
Yes. Two canvases, two brushes, one shared set of paints. Two people making two versions of the same thing is the whole idea.
Do you post anything to us?
Only if you add the kit. The class itself is fully digital and it's in your inbox within a minute of paying. If you add the kit, the box follows in 3 to 7 business days.
Can you just send us the paints?
Yes. Grab the class + kit option in the materials section and I'll post the canvases, paints and brushes to you anywhere in Australia. The class still arrives in your inbox straight away, so you can book the night in while the box is in transit.
Can we do it with a friend instead of a partner?
Yes. Sisters, best mates, mothers and daughters, flatmates. It works exactly the same and I'm not checking. 😉
Do we get to see the painting before we buy?
It's further up this page. No mystery, no surprises. You know exactly what you're making before you pay.
What's in the three night bundle?
Three different paintings instead of one, so the next two dates are already sorted. It's $97 rather than $47, which makes the two extra classes $50 together instead of $94 if you came back for them separately.
What if we want to paint it more than once?
Go for it. It's yours to keep, so you can do it again with different people and watch them make a completely different mess of it.
Not ready tonight?
Take the 20 conversation prompts that aren't about the kids, the house, or the weekend. Free.
