Hey, I’m Brigitte!

My first name is Brigitte, my last name is Gerges, and I have no middle name which I found quite strangely satisfying. I am of first generation Australian with a long line of happy Lebanese heritage.

My versatile artistic expression encompasses an array of visual arts mediums—multidisciplinary and mixed media. My work finds its essence in exploring the intricacies of the human form, both physically and emotionally, often within the context of portraiture, all the while infusing elements of abstract figuration. I've transitioned through various phases, initially experimenting with synthetic polymers in abstraction and later delving into the depth of oil painting. Recently, my focus has expanded to portraiture, fuelled by a deep-rooted curiosity for anatomy and the dynamics of capturing movement and human experience through the medium of drawing.

My artistic journey has been marked by notable achievements both on local and global platforms. I've proudly exhibited my creations at esteemed venues including Little Fish Gallery (2012), Bankstown Art Centre (2012), Los Angeles Concord Gallery (2013), Verge Gallery (2013), Verge Gallery (2014), and MOP Gallery (2016). Adding to this, an upcoming exhibition is on the horizon at Good Space in Chippendale (September 2023). At Verge Gallery, I co-founded and successfully established "Exposure Space," a thriving avenue dedicated to student exhibitions at the University of Sydney.

To augment my artistic prowess, I pursued advanced education, acquiring a Master of Education (secondary studies) from Western Sydney University in 2017 to complement my existing credentials—a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters of Curatorship from the University of Sydney. Since 2019, I've adeptly managed an independent art business, intertwining art instruction and sales that have reached collectors across Australia and beyond, spanning Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, America, and Austria. In 2023, a pivotal juncture emerged as I embarked on an artist residency nestled in Tuscany, Italy—an opportunity poised to refine my technical finesse, deepen my conceptual insights, and broaden the horizons of my artistic journey.
